Solid Ground Land and Excavation is owned and operated by Hap McClure. The business is small by design — Hap runs the equipment, gives the quotes, and walks every finished job with the customer. The same person who shows up to look at your property is the one who does the work.
Hap has been working with heavy equipment for the better part of his life. He started in the fire service at age 15, where he picked up the foundation that still drives the way he runs jobs today: take safety seriously, show up when you said you would, and finish what you started.
From there he moved into construction. Over the years he’s run directional drill rigs, bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, trenchers, track loaders, and cranes — across land excavation, utility installation, site preparation, and commercial construction projects. Before relocating to Missouri, he spent years as a union tower crane operator in California, helping build high-rise structures where there’s no margin for error.
Hap and his wife Angela founded Solid Ground in 2024 to bring that experience directly to Kansas City area property owners. In 2025, as more customers came looking for serious land clearing, they invested in a FAE drum mulcher paired with a Takeuchi TL12-R2 — the equipment that lets the business take on overgrown lots, fence lines, and hunting properties that smaller operators can’t touch.
Today Solid Ground is a husband-and-wife operation. Hap runs the work in the field. Angela handles the back office. It’s the kind of operation where the customer’s quote is from the owner, and the work gets done by the owner.
The name has two layers, and we mean both of them.
Literally — we build solid ground. Gravel driveways that hold up under weight. Graded lots ready for a build. Cleared land ready for whatever comes next.
And how we do business — straight quotes, clear communication, showing up when we said we would, and doing the work right the first time. That’s the kind of solid ground we want every customer to leave us standing on.
Clearing brush, small trees, and overgrowth in a single pass — no burning, no hauling, no debris piles. The cleanest way to take back an overgrown property.
Fast, cost-effective clearing for overgrown grass, weeds, briars, and light brush. Ideal for pasture reclamation and city compliance work.
New gravel driveway installation, road repair, and washed-out road restoration — built with proper grading and drainage so it lasts.
Site grading, French drains, and general excavation. Whether you need land cleared and prepped for a build, or drainage problems solved, we handle both phases.
Customers don’t always know what to look for when comparing contractors. So here’s what we actually run on your property:
The biggest compact track loader in its class. Powerful enough for heavy brush and dense cedar, compact enough to get into tight residential lots and fence lines that bigger machines can’t.
Factory-branded for Takeuchi. Drum design grinds debris straight down — safer than disc mulchers near houses, fences, and outbuildings. Handles softwoods up to 10″ and hardwoods up to 6″.
For trenching, French drains, footings, utility work, and the digging that a track loader isn’t built for.
Hap has run directional drills, bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, trenchers, track loaders, and tower cranes across his career. The equipment matters — but so does the person on the controls.
